Worship is primarily about glorifying God, not expressing my personal feelings. *
Psalm 29:2 “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.”
Jesus is the only mediator between God and humanity, and worship should reflect that. *
1 Timothy 2:5 “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,”
Worship is mainly about creating a strong emotional experience for people. *
John 4:24 “God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
The lyrics we sing in worship should be biblically accurate. *
Colossians 3:16 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
Music is the most important part of worship and defines whether worship is successful. *
Romans 12:1 “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”
True worship must be done in spirit and in truth, meaning it is centered on Christ and led by the Holy Spirit. *
John 4:24 “God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Corporate worship is meant to build up the Church as one body, not just create a personal experience. *
Ephesians 4:12–13 “to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ,”
The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit carry different levels of authority in worship and are not equal. *
2 Corinthians 13:14 (ESV) “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”→ John 10:30 (ESV) “I and the Father are one.”
Worship that is truly “in spirit and in truth” is centered on Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and not dependent on a specific place or ritual. *
John 4:21–24 “Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.’”
Worship on earth reflects and participates in the heavenly worship around God’s throne, where Christ is exalted, because believers are seated with Him in the heavenly places. *
Revelation 4:11 “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”
Revelation 5:12–13 “saying with a loud voice, ‘Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!’ And I heard every creature in heaven."Ephesians 2:6 (ESV) “and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,”
